      BIOSKETCH


      Dr. Ligia DaSilva received a B.S. and M.S. degrees in Biology/Biochemistry from Tashkent State University, Uzbequistan; and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Food Science with concentration in Microbiology and Molecular Biology from Louisiana State University. She joined UMES as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in 2006. Her research is focused on growth and survival of Vibrio parahaemolyticus and Vibrio vulnificus in Chesapeake Bay and Gulf Coast Oysters. Since 2008, Dr. DaSilva has taught several undergraduate and graduate courses in the Natural Science Department and Food Science Department. Her current research interests are in the areas of food and environmental microbiology, and water quality.
